The 5 Heavenly Virtues - Superpowers for Your Mind
Do you want to feel crystal clear again? To eliminate the murkiness in your being?
Everywhere we look in modern culture, we are being fed the 7 deadly sins.
Our music, movies, and cultural icons are drenched in sin. Just look at the titles of movies on netflix - many are synonyms for lust, vengeance, anger, greed, and pride. And the whole experience is marketed as binge-worthy (gluttony).
Sin is shown to us as something exciting and cool, but the definition of ‘sin’ is that it leads you astray…down a dead-end road of loneliness and regret.
Everything good starts with Virtue. Sin is emptiness of Virtue.
We know the ‘deadly sins’, but did you ever hear of the Heavenly Virtues?
Virtues are real superpowers we can gain…advanced mind-traits cultivated by generations across the millennia.
Virtues are way better than sins because they lead to deep self-respect, happy relationships, and a lifestyle that feels good in your heart.
If you install these four Virtues in your mind, you will have an invincible shield against all traps and erosive forces:
Kindness Also called unconditional love, generosity, compassionate joy and compassionate sorrow. To be kind is want to help others. To see their joy and strength or sadness and struggle and offer them encouragement. It is to forgive them instantaneously no matter what. It is to help others who are suffering, for the sake of love itself.
Nothing in life gives more genuine joy than an act of true kindness.
Bravery Also called determination, strength, courage, fearlessness, fortitude.
Bravery is the most important virtue - you must be brave to choose virtuous action in the first place…
You can choose a life of honor despite all circumstances. Who cares what other people do? You are brave and you can walk your own path. You can live in a way that feels right.
You can transcend.
Optimism
Also called hope, charisma, moxie, confidence, faith, good humor.
This is the most fun virtue. With optimism, no matter what, you still enjoy a light-hearted spirit. You know that you will always make the best of any situation…so you can keep your cheer during times of hardship.
You maintain your own mojo…your improvisational, smooth-dancing unique, expressive, energetic, fun self.
Moderation
Also called tranquility, acceptance, balance, serenity, equanimity.
Moderation is the root of all wisdom because it keeps you out of danger. It is the vigilant rottweiler patrolling your soul to keep you on track.
Being okay with moderation keeps us from sinking into self-destructive loops of craving, anxiety, and over-indulgence. It allows us a bulletproof calm under pressure because we know we don’t need much, so there is nothing that can be taken.
To maintain moderation requires strong awareness, and you are rewarded with an untouchable, long-lasting peace.
Morality
Also called intuition, honor, integrity, righteousness, prudence.
This virtue is the one you feel in your gut. You know in your heart when something is wrong…when you see someone abusing an animal or screaming at an innocent child…when someone takes advantage of kindness or steals from a hard-working family.
That is why the promotion of sin in modern media is so damaging - it attempts to strip our sense of right and wrong. Losing the sense of morality makes us very vulnerable to sin, to falling astray.
But having morality is simple once you decide to follow your heart in every situation.
You can be brave and hold true to your sense of what’s right and wrong…the one you’ve known since you were a child, the one that leads to real self-respect.
Install the 5 Virtues
You may notice that each of these requires extra effort. That is true.
To act with virtue requires strong determination and conscious action. That’s why it is inspiring and meaningful to observe a virtuous act. Virtue is sacred.
I once met a shopkeeper on a mountaintop in Nepal, who said a woman asked to buy a rose from a bush beside his shop, but he would not sell it for any price, because it was special…and that’s how we must be with our virtues.
It’s okay to protect your love - it is holy.
If you have read this far then I respect you for seeking balance and a good life-path. Keep it up, you are beautiful. It is excellent and meaningful that you pursue virtue.
If you feel you’ve fallen astray, you can return. You can get it all back.
Tattoo these virtues in your mind for moments when you’re drifting. You can be unconditionally loving, wise and free from temptation…humble and peaceful…brave enough to do the right thing, no matter what.
What’s the point of anything but Right Action?
Everything begins in the mind.
Virtue is the sacred uplifting force in the world. We can transcend.
